The most common way to say “Happy Chinese New Year” in both Mandarin and Cantonese is “Gong xi fa cai” (恭喜发财), which means “congratulations and be prosperous”. This phrase is often used to express good wishes for the new year, especially in business settings. You can also add “nian nian you yu” (年年有余) after “gong xi fa cai”, which means “may you have abundance every year”. This makes the greeting more complete and auspicious.
